It's possible to run mobile JAVA applications on your computer using the excellent mpowerplayer, which is a free J2ME emulator to test J2ME applications before you buy them, or just play J2ME games on your computer. This MXiT Port package I put together just takes MXiT 3.0.5 (http://www.mxit.co.za), a minimal version of mpowerplayer (http://mpowerplayer.com) and a launcher I wrote to launch the java applications and puts it into a convenient installer package so that MXiT can be easily installed and used as a normal application on your computer. This can be done manually, but I did this for the less-technical computer users.

Please note that you need the Sun JAVA JRE to run this application. If you have any problems please feel free to contact me. My email is icesslinux@gmail.com

Known issues:

  • MXiT doesn't always show new messages when run under mpowerplayer. To see if you have new messages, just send a blank message to the Info contact. This usually refreshes your contact list and shows any new messages you have. If you don't get anything back from Info, just close MXiT and open it again. Sometimes you have to do this more than once! MXiT also gets stuck at the "logging in" screen sometimes. Just close it and open it again.
  • As JAVA is a interpreted computer language, it can take some time on slower computers to start.
  • The sound's is screwed up when run under mpowerplayer.
  • The vibration doesn't work. :)

Windows MXiT Installer RC2
Sun JAVA JRE (Required)
Linux X11 Package RC1

Please do not pester the authors of MXit or mpowerplayer if you have problems. I did this to make it easier for you to run MXit on your PC, and if you complain to the MXit or mpowerplayer guys, they might just tell me to stop doing this. By the way, the package contains no spyware, viruses and nasty stuff, but double check it anyway! This package comes with absolutely NO WARRANTY and NO SUPPORT and it's FREE.
